Quick answer

Getting to Koh Larn: take the ~40฿ public ferry from Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya (about 30–45 min) to Na Baan, or a ~15–20 minute speedboat that can land at any beach. The last boat back is late afternoon — confirm it when you arrive.

Getting to Bali Hai Pier

Southern end of Pattaya, at the foot of Walking Street. This is the departure point for almost everyone. It's a working pier — follow the signs and staff to the right boat, and ignore touts steering you to pricier 'private' options unless that's what you want.

Songthaew (baht bus)
The cheap local way: blue baht buses run down Beach Road and Second Road toward South Pattaya / Walking Street; hop off near Bali Hai and walk to the pier. A few baht to ~10–20฿.
Taxi / Grab / Bolt
App taxis (Grab, Bolt) and metered taxis drop right at the pier — easiest with luggage or a group. Confirm the fare or use the app price.
Motorbike taxi
Quick for solo travellers from central Pattaya; agree the fare first.
On foot
From the south end of Walking Street it's a short, signed walk to the pier.

Driving? There is paid parking near Bali Hai Pier if you drive, but it can fill on busy days — arrive early or use a taxi/Grab.

01. Option A

The public ferry — the cheap, classic way over

Fare
~40฿ one-way — Raised from 30฿ in April 2026. Pay on boarding, in cash. Verify the current fare on the day.
Crossing
~30–45 min
Boarding
At Bali Hai, walk to the end of the pier: Na Baan boats generally board on the right, Tawaen boats on the left. Ask staff if unsure.
Tickets
There's usually no advance ticket needed for the public boat — you pay the fare in cash on board (have small notes). Just board the correct boat for your pier.
Luggage
Day bags are no problem. The slow ferry is open and basic; keep valuables in a dry bag and hold cameras and phones securely on the open water.
Accessibility
Boarding is via steps/gangway at the pier and can be awkward with wheels or limited mobility — ask staff for help, or consider a speedboat that lands directly on a beach.

Which pier?

Na Baan Pier

The main village pier, facing Jomtien. The all-year, all-day workhorse route. Board on the right at the end of Bali Hai Pier.

Tawaen Beach Pier

Seasonal/daytime direct boats straight to the main beach. Board on the left at the end of the pier.

Indicative timetable

Heads up: Indicative only — times vary seasonally and are not guaranteed. Always check the boards at Bali Hai and confirm the last return when you arrive.

Out to the island
Bali Hai → Na Baan
First around 08:00–08:30, then roughly hourly through the day, last around 17:00–18:00
Bali Hai → Tawaen (seasonal)
Approx 08:00, 09:00, 11:00, 13:00
Back to Pattaya
Na Baan → Bali Hai
Early-morning local boats through to roughly 17:00–18:00
Tawaen → Bali Hai (seasonal)
Approx 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00
02. Option B

Speedboat — fast, flexible, pricier

Price
~200–300฿ per seat · ~1,500–2,000฿ to charter
Crossing
~15–20 min
Where
Touted along Beach Road and at Bali Hai Pier.

A speedboat can land you directly at almost any beach — Samae, Tien and the rest — instead of just the piers. Good for groups, late starts, reaching a specific quiet beach, or anyone who finds the pier-and-songthaew shuffle hard. Agree the price, the destination and the return arrangement before you board.

Charter smart
  • Agree price, destination and pickup time in writing if you can
  • Split a charter across a group to match ferry-plus-songthaew cost
  • Confirm whether the price is one-way or return
  • Note your driver's boat and number for the return
Seasickness

Speedboats bounce hard in chop — if you're prone to seasickness the slower ferry is gentler. Sit centrally, look at the horizon, and consider motion-sickness tablets taken in advance.
