Where to Eat

Where to eat on Koh Larn — seafood, stalls & what to order

Koh Larn's food is straightforward and good: fresh seafood at beachfront tables, Thai standards, and fruit shakes from village stalls. You're paying island prices for the view — that's the deal. We don't take placements, so we point you at the types of places and how to order well, not a paid list of names.

Where the food is

Tawaen Beach

The widest choice on the island — a strip of beachfront seafood and Thai restaurants, plus loungers with table service, convenience stores, a 7-Eleven and fruit-shake stalls. Easiest place to eat well without planning.

Na Baan village

The most local and best-value eating, around the main pier: small Thai restaurants, noodle and rice shops, stalls and fresh fruit. Where overnighters eat once the day-trippers have gone.

Samae & the quieter beaches

Beachfront restaurants behind the sand at Samae and Tien serve seafood and Thai food with a calmer view. The remote beaches (Thong Lang, Laem Tien) may have one option or none — bring snacks.

Dishes to try

Grilled seafood (pla pao, goong pao)
Whole fish or prawns grilled and served with spicy seafood dipping sauce — the island signature. Priced by weight.
Som tam (papaya salad)
Spicy, sour, fresh — say how hot you want it (mai phet = not spicy).
Pad thai & fried rice
Reliable, cheap and everywhere; easy crowd-pleasers for kids.
Tom yum / tom kha
Hot-and-sour or coconut soups, often with seafood.
Fresh fruit shakes & young coconut
The perfect beach cool-down; village stalls do the best value.

Vegetarian

Vegetarians can eat well: pad thai, fried rice and noodles can be made with egg or veg, and som tam and stir-fried vegetables are widely available. Say 'mang sa wirat' (vegetarian) and 'mai sai nam pla' (no fish sauce) if you're strict; the village restaurants are the most flexible.

Budget

You can eat cheaply at village noodle shops and stalls (tens of baht a plate) or spend more on fresh seafood by weight at a beachfront table for the view. Either way, bring cash and confirm seafood prices first.

Order well

How to eat without surprises

  • Ask the price of seafood by weight before it's cooked — it's normal here and avoids surprises.
  • Carry cash; most beach tables and stalls don't take cards.
  • A lounger is often free if you eat and drink at the attached restaurant — just ask.
  • On quiet beaches, don't assume anything is open — check before you rely on it.
  • Say your spice level: 'mai phet' (not spicy) or 'phet nit noi' (a little spicy).
