The quiet beauty — scenic, low-key, and the one regulars name when no one's listening.

  • Clean, bright water
  • Scenic, low-key setting
  • Good snorkeling around the rocks
  • Far enough out to thin the crowd

Tien is the beach Koh Larn regulars quietly recommend. It sits on the south-west, a little further from the pier, and that small extra effort filters out enough of the crowd to change the mood entirely. The water is bright and clean, the sand is good, and the scene is calmer — fewer touts, more room to breathe, and a real sense of having gone somewhere rather than just stepping off a songthaew into a wall of loungers. It still has restaurants and loungers, so you are not roughing it, but it trades a sliver of convenience for a noticeably nicer day. For couples and anyone who finds Tawaen overwhelming, this is the sweet spot.

The vibe & crowd

Quiet and scenic. Loungers and a few restaurants, but space to spread out and a slower pace. Mornings are serene; even peak afternoons rarely feel frantic.

The swim

Very good — clean, clear and rarely crowded. There are some rocky patches, so water shoes help, but the central sand gives an easy, calm entry. One of the nicer swims on the island.

The sand

A compact, attractive stretch of pale sand with rocky sections at the edges. Scenic rather than vast.

Snorkeling

Good around the rocky margins, and visibility is usually better here than at the busy beaches because the water is less churned. Bring your own gear; organised rental is limited.

Water sports

Low-key by design — expect a banana boat at most, not the full Tawaen circus. That's part of the appeal.

Food nearby

A few relaxed beachfront restaurants serve seafood and Thai standards with a calmer view. Choice is narrower than the big beaches, so don't arrive starving expecting twenty menus — but you'll eat well. Carry cash.

Good to know

Best time
Mornings are magic here. Cool season for the clearest water. A fine spot to end the day quietly if you're staying over.
With kids
Good for families who want calm over facilities — the water is gentle and the crowd light. Just bring snacks and essentials, as shops are minimal.
Accessibility
Compact and a little out of the way; soft sand and uneven rocky sections make step-free access difficult.
Photo spots
The rocky headlands and the clean curve of the bay; the south-west aspect catches good afternoon light.
For it
  • Quieter and prettier than the big beaches
  • Genuinely clear water
  • Still has loungers and food
Against it
  • Further from the pier
  • Limited food choice
  • Rocky in places

Local tip: Pair Tien with Nual just around the coast for a quiet two-beach southern loop on a scooter.

Maybe skip it if: You want lots of watersports and a big choice of restaurants — that's Tawaen.

Tien Beach FAQ

Quick answers

Is Tien Beach worth the extra travel?

Yes, if you value a quieter, clearer swim. The slightly longer trip from the pier is exactly what keeps the crowd down.

Is Tien the same as Tian Beach?

Yes — it's the same beach, spelled either Tien or Tian depending on the map or sign.

Can a speedboat drop me at Tien?

Yes. A chartered speedboat from Bali Hai can land directly on Tien in about 15–20 minutes, which is the easiest way to reach it.

No paid placements

We visit. We don't sell placement.

We pay our own way — every ferry, every lounger, every plate of seafood. Nothing on this guide is sponsored, and no operator, resort or restaurant can buy a higher ranking. Businesses can pitch us to be visited; they can't pay for position. That's the whole deal, and it's why you can trust the order.
