The signature Koh Larn thrill — short, scenic, and best agreed on price before you clip in.

Parasailing is the photo everyone brings home from Koh Larn: you, harnessed under a bright parachute, towed up behind a speedboat for a few minutes high over the bay with the island and the sea spread out below. It's a genuine little thrill and the views are excellent, but manage expectations on length — a single flight is short, often just a few minutes and a lap or two. It runs mainly off Tawaen and Samae, where operators line the sand. The most important part happens before you leave the ground: agree the price and the number of laps clearly, and look at the gear.

How it works

An operator straps you into a harness clipped to a parachute, a speedboat accelerates, and you lift off the beach or a pontoon. You glide for a few minutes, then they reel you back down. Usually solo; some run tandem.

Who it's for

Most reasonably able adults and older kids who aren't afraid of heights. Not for very young children, or anyone advised against sudden harness pressure or jolts. If unsure, ask the operator.

What to expect

A quick adrenaline hit and a brilliant aerial view, over almost before you've settled into it. Expect a hard sell on the sand and a price that's negotiable.

The honest caution

Standards vary between operators. Check the harness clips and the life jacket yourself, confirm exactly what you're paying for (laps, solo vs tandem) before takeoff, and walk away if the wind is up or the gear looks tired.

Safety

Check the harness and life jacket, confirm the price and number of laps before takeoff, and skip it in rough wind. Secure or leave behind phones, sunglasses and loose items.

Good to know

  • Confirm price and laps up front
  • Secure phones and sunglasses
  • Not for very young children
  • Skip it if the wind looks strong
For it
  • The island's signature thrill
  • Unbeatable aerial views
  • Quick — fits any schedule
Against it
  • Very short for the money
  • Pushy beach sales
  • Weather-dependent and standards vary

Alternatives: Want longer airtime and more control? This is a one-off novelty, not a sport — pair it with a banana boat for the kids or sea walking for something underwater.
