Best for
near village, convenient

The handy local beach near the village — easy to reach, not the prettiest.

  • Closest beach to the village and pier
  • Village shops and food a short walk away
  • Easy, quick to reach

Ta Yai is the practical choice. It sits close to Na Baan village and the main pier, which makes it the beach you can reach in minutes — useful if you're short on time, travelling with people who don't want a hilly transfer, or basing yourself near the shops, ferries and overnight rooms. It's pleasant enough for a swim and a meal, with village restaurants and stores a short walk away, but it's honestly more functional than beautiful: the water is less clear than the west and south coasts and it lacks the wow factor of Samae or Nual. Think of it as the convenient local beach rather than a destination in its own right.

The vibe & crowd

Local and convenient, moderately busy. Near the village hum rather than a scenic escape. Handy more than dreamy.

The swim

Okay — fine for a dip and a cool-off. The water is less clear than the west and south beaches, so manage expectations.

The sand

A workaday stretch near the village — decent for a swim, not the island's most scenic sand.

Snorkeling

Not a snorkeling beach — head to Samae, Tien or Nual for that.

Water sports

Some banana boats and jet skis operate here given the proximity to the village; agree prices first.

Food nearby

Its big advantage: Na Baan village's restaurants, noodle and rice shops, stalls, fruit and convenience stores are all a short walk away — the best-value, most local eating on the island.

Getting to Ta Yai Beach

From Na Baan
Minutes from the village — a very short songthaew ride or a walk.
By scooter
A quick, flat ride or even a stroll from the pier area.
By speedboat
Most arrive via Na Baan rather than a direct speedboat here.
On foot
Walkable from Na Baan village — one of the few beaches you can reach on foot.

Good to know

Best time
Handy any time of day given the short hop; cool season for the best water. Good for a quick swim around ferry times.
With kids
A sensible family base if you want to stay near shops, food and the pier without a hilly transfer — convenient, if not the prettiest swim.
Accessibility
Among the easier beaches to reach thanks to its closeness to the village and flatter approach, though soft sand still limits step-free access.
Photo spots
More functional than photogenic — the village backdrop rather than a postcard cove.
For it
  • Closest, easiest beach to reach
  • Village food and shops on the doorstep
  • Good budget base
Against it
  • Less clear water
  • Not the most scenic
  • Near the working village rather than an escape

Local tip: Use Ta Yai when you're tight on time or based in the village — it's the beach you can hit between ferries without committing to a cross-island ride.

Maybe skip it if: You came for clear snorkeling water or a scenic, away-from-it-all beach.
